RAFSA Aim

Promoting air mindedness throughout the RAF by affording Service personnel, regardless of rank or trade, the opportunity of learning to fly and compete at the most economical cost

A Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), Royal Air Force Sport Aircraft (RAFSA) was formed on 1st Jan 2020. The aim of RAFSA remains to promote air mindedness throughout the RAF by affording Service personnel, regardless of rank or trade, the opportunity of learning to fly and compete at the most economical cost.

Sport, adventure and physical activity is a crucial component in developing RAF personnel into a world-leading fighting force. Light aircraft flying and training to Private Pilot Licence (PPL) Standard is one of many approved RAF Sports, governed by the RAF Sports Federation (RAFSF). The activity includes competitive aerobatics, precision navigation and long-range expeditionary flights within the UK and overseas. For personnel to reach their potential, they must participate in the right environment. The RAF Sports Federation is central to providing that environment.

Operating from Ministry of Defence aerodromes, there are 10 RAF Flying Schools or Clubs, their locations spread across the UK. Governed by RAFSA, the activity is non-publicly funded and financed solely through members subscriptions and supporting grants.
